Serinette, Louis XV Louis XVI mechanical musical instrument consisting of a small barrel organ with cylinder with steel pins and tin pipes. Crank activating a reciprocating bellows. 8 tunes. 10 notes. Made by GERARDIN, facteur d'orgues & de serinettes à Mirecourt en Lorraine. The Gerardin were active until 1789. This miniature organ, imitating the song of canaries, was developed to teach them to sing new tunes hence its name serinette.
