About

The Peugeot type 174 S that we propose for sale is a magnificent and unique torpedo sport model, an extremely rare and enormous vehicle of 1922, with 3.8-liter four-cylinder engine without valves. The Peugeot type 174 built from 1923 to 1930 to 810 specimens, is a sedan, coupe or limousine for stars between the wars, known for its silence, its suppleness and its exceptional comfort. Built in the Peugeot factories of Issy-les-Moulineaux, it will be offered in bare chassis and will attract large bodybuilders. Its engine is due to the duo of engineers Artault and Louis Dufresne who will leave the Gabriel Voisin brand in 1921 for Peugeot with the plans of the engine without valves of the Voisin C3. Their mission will be to develop the engine of a very luxurious car, the system without valves with coaxial jackets being reserved for the cars of high displacement, with improved flexibility, engine silence and a better efficiency.

The result will come in the form of a 4-cylinder with 5 bearings, which develops a power of 75 hp for a top speed of 100 km/h. A lightweight version, slightly more expensive at the time (56 000 francs for 54 000 francs for the bare chassis of the standard version), the Peugeot 18 CV Sport 174 S is born with a power raised to 85 hp and a top speed exceeding 110 km/h. This extremely rare version, produced just over 200 copies, was, like the sedan or the coupe, delivered in bare chassis then dressed in a renowned coachbuilder. The Peugeot Sport 174 S was able, thanks to its light body, to win a number of tourism events. Before its official presentation at the Salon de Paris in 1922, it took part in the Grand Prix of ACF Tourisme 1922, which its won in 1923 - 1924 with versions of 3,991 cc. Its also won the Targa Florio Cup 1925, the 24 Hours of Spa and from Italy in 1926 and participated in the 24 hours of Le Mans the same year.

The 18-horsepower Sport Peugeot 174S Roadster on sale has been restored for nearly 9 years and totals 27,000 km of origin. This unique model is in very good state of presentation.
