This petrified Arizona wood comes from a resinous fossil tree called Araucaria. This superb slice of fossil wood, with growth circles are perfectly visible, has a magnificent palette of colors of veins mainly grey, anthracite, with ivory and red brown small veins. These colours were brought by the richness of the minerals present in the soils during their change of state of stone wood, in particular certain iron oxidation characteristic of Arizona reds. This piece from the Mesozoic is a cut of an Araucaria fossil dating from nearly 225 million years ago. The back of this fossil tree part is reinforced with fiberglass.
