Large oil painting by Paul de Vos (1596 - 1678), 17th century Flemish school, depicting a fight between a lion and four dogs, on a landscape background. It is framed by a beautiful carved and gilt-oakwood frame. Oil on Canvas. Paul de Vos (circa 1596 - 1678). Born in Hulst near Antwerp, Paul de Vos, studied with the painter David Remeeus (1559-1626), became a master and joined the Saint Luc guild in 1620. He specialized in monumental animal scenes, in particular hunting, following orders from aristocratic patrons and collaborated like other Antwerp painters with other artists, notably Pierre Paul Rubens and Antoine van Dyck.
