The Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 is a very innovative luxury car designed for the rich international clientele. Produced by the Italian manufacturer Isotta Fraschini in 1912, it will be one of the first cars equipped with an 8-cylinder engine. This will allow it to be a world leader in its class, especially in the United States, where this car was more expensive than a Duesenberg Model J ... In the 1920s, the carmaker produced only one model, this Tipo 8, which becomes Tipo 8A in 1924. The latter offers a redesigned chassis with a new suspension with Isotta comfort and its enormous 8-cylinder in-line engine of 7.4 liters of displacement developing 110 to 160 hp.
Two more powerful versions of the Tipo 8 were available, the S (Spinto) or SS (Super Spinto), which had two carburators and a stronger compression to reach 160 horsepower, as well as a shorter chassis of 28 cm. The Isotta Fraschini, notably the Tipo 8A, was instead delivered with a long wheelbase of 368.3 cm chassis. It also benefited from the most powerful engine ever produced in the mid-1920s. Its variant, Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8B, modernized, notably by its pre-selectable 4 speeds Wilson, will be launched in 1931. The Isotta Fraschini were dressed with bodies including the two great Milanese coachbuilders Cesare Sala and Castagna. These classic cars were the happiness of illustrious owners such as Rudolph Valentino, Pope Pius XI or Mussolini.
