Antique model of a 1782 frigate, the Venus. This sailing boat was facing the English navy, equipped with 48 guns. The Venus is a ship designed on plan by N. Sané, of the Hebé class. This large model of navy was built entirely by hand, in wood (hull and mast), with real ropes and rigging in vegetal fiber, with copper for the lining of the hull, ebony for decorations, ivory and bone for the figurehead and decorations, brass for pieces of wrought iron artillery turned by hand. This marine antique is exceptional in size, finish and refinement. Boat presented on a base and under glass showcase.
In perfect condition and beautiful patina
This large ship model was exhibited during 1957 at the Musée de la Marine in Paris, due to its extreme quality. It was lent by its owner and director, Dr. Pierre Colat, who became a permanent member of the Museum and was awarded the Navy Medal of Honour.
